WWF organizes a side-event “Forests, Lands and Oceans: For the People, For the Climate” taking place on 8 December, in the presence of Yolanda Kakabadse, president of WWF International.
This event will take place in the midst of the COP21, it will be an opportune moment to remind the key role of biodiversity in the fight against climate change and the importance of conserving it.
Forests, lands and oceans play a critical role in climate regulation, carbon uptake and storage, adaptation and resilience to the impacts of climate change. But climate change threatens these functions and often exacerbates existing pressures on natural habitats.
The event will be an opportunity to share lessons from the field and explore how to scale up solutions and mechanisms based on lands, forests and oceans to respond to the challenge of climate change, and how the latter can be better integrated into public policies and international climate governance.
